Being a girl can be hard, right?
Being a girl can be a challenge, even now when girls have so many more choices than they did even a few decades ago. But in the modern world, girls still face plenty of problems and need to learn how to overcome them and shine through.

• Caroline lacks the confidence to go skating without her brother, Jack, and tries to fit into other people’s dreams instead.
• Camila thinks she needs to be a superhero to do what she loves.
• Ember is unused to her changing body and can’t bear for her friends to even see her.
• Jasmine is so scared of failure that she is reluctant to even try.

Shine, My Amazing Girl is an anthology children’s novel jam packed with girl power and an underlying message of just being you because you are enough. The chapters each go over a different girl and their journey of adversity. There are such a variety of characters any kid that reads this will surely find one to connect with. While this is absolutely a standalone book, I love that it connects back to Arise, My Amazing Boy not only sharing characters but even mentioning parts of the stories.
Caroline shows great determination in trying to make friends, only realizing that she was looking in all the wrong places but once she leaned into her own interests it happened naturally. Ember is struggling with all the changes brought on by puberty but begins to understand that she is so much more than her appearance. Jasmine participates in a contest where she doesn’t win but instead is given the opportunity to go to a writing camp free of charge, an expense that wouldn’t have been feasible for her family.
My personal favorite was Chloes story. There is a fake social media account saying unkind things about a girl at school. One day in the bathroom Chloe hears three girls talking about being the ones doing the online bullying. Chloe confronts one of the girls to put a stop to it, a truly courageous act. This resulted in growth for all involved on how not to treat people and how to help in these situations.
It’s refreshing that many chapters display strong and healthy sibling bonds that are so important in a child’s life. The siblings are always looking out for each other and giving the best advice. Shine, My Amazing Girl showcases a group of girls that are not only relatable but inspiring to girls everywhere. A true gem for girls and boys alike. —Ashley Booth, Homeschooling Mom of Five

Emma Meyer has written an important book for young girls, including notes at the end of each chapter, highlighting her points with positive speech. While supporting girls in trying new things, Meyer emphasizes the importance of authenticity. The book shows themes of friendship, finding balance, taking a stand against bullying, and self-awareness, while addressing common problems for pre-teens and young teens, and focusing on inner beauty over outer appearance. Meyer encourages transparency and honesty to gain insight and experience, and the stories are interconnected, showing how a person may give advice even if they are having their own troubles in another area. A free audiobook is available with a purchase, and educators and caregivers can feel confident giving Shine, My Amazing Girl to readers as they are sharing a book that will encourage self-esteem and confidence. —Courtnee Turner Hoyle for Readers’ Favorite

Shine, My Amazing Girl is an empowering story that shows kids that they are enough!
A group of girls are faced with different challenges in their life but soon find a way to see each challenge in a different light. Caroline is a girl that is struggling to find her place after her brother’s accident. Will she be able to find a place that is just hers without the influence of her brother? Each story will not only warm your heart, but it will also give you a different perspective on the challenges you face every day. However, some stories are a little too similar in their main lesson. Having said this, each story is empowering and gives a different perspective to the reader. Girls of all ages will enjoy the stories shared in Shine, My Amazing Girl! —Kaylee Haynes, Elementary School Teacher
