Author Mateo Sommer has crafted both an engaging chapter book of inspiring stories and a handy guide on modern boyhood that teaches whilst it entertains. What makes this book particularly charming is how it presents the different problems in a way that encourages young readers to think and problem-solve for themselves. The characters are relatable, and their journeys of self-discovery and growth are both entertaining and educational. I was also delighted with the illustrations provided by artist Henrique C. Rampazzo, which help to maintain the light-hearted tone of the work but also convey some of the emotional and expressive elements in a visual form that some young readers may understand more deeply as a result. Overall, Arise, My Amazing Boy is an excellent resource for parents, teachers, and, most importantly, young readers. It offers valuable life lessons and a reminder that every child’s problems are worth addressing and that, with creativity and resilience, they can be solved. —K.C. Finn for Readers’ Favorite

Arise, My Amazing Boy is a spectacular book that leads kids on the road to self-discovery.
A group of boys attending the same school take turns discovering new truths and helping each other. Joey doubts his abilities, but he will have to discover if they are holding him back or if his abilities are his greatest power. Each boy’s story will warm your heart and make you think about things differently. They could even change the way you see yourself. However, the direct connection between each boy isn’t as direct as it could be. Having said this, the novel will appeal strongly to children in school struggling with their own self-worth and will help children of all ages to look at themselves differently. —Kaylee Haynes, Elementary School Teacher

Arise, My Amazing Boy by Mateo Sommer is a children’s anthology that empowers boys to be themselves. Each chapter takes us on a new journey with different kids teaching a valuable lesson. There are eight chapters each navigating a relatable situation with different boys as the lead. The situations range from saving a friends sister from jumping in a pond to working through the aftermath of a house fire.
The lessons show great growth in the characters. The type of growth that can really give kids the confidence boost they need to see the light in their own situations.
I especially enjoyed chapter three where Stephen is afraid to take place in the chess tournament fearing he will fail. All this changes when his classmate is injured in a skateboarding accident, putting things into perspective for Stephen. He then overcomes the fear and realizes that failure is okay he just needs to try his best. I also really enjoyed the honesty and dialogue with his father. Another notable one is the story of Colin and his family losing everything in a house fire. It’s heartwarming and incredible to see how the other boys stepped up to help him out.
I believe this book will be a shining light in the children’s genre for boy empowerment. A class we often see for girls that can be lacking for boys. Arise, my Amazing Boy is a book recommend to any kid but especially a must for boys! —Ashley Booth, Homeschooling Mom of Five
